So the problem appears to be some kind of formatting or template in those Word files that doesn't work well with the HP drivers. I can create a new Word file and print it, and I can print those files if I open them in WordPad. Looking deeper, it seems to only be certain Word documents in the user shares that won't print. I get the same Application error, this time with PrintIsolationHost.exe instead of spoolsv.exe. I'm using a test workstation with our base Windows 7 image, and the printer will print a test page and print from Excel, but not documents from Word. I checked the power settings, and I've tried other drivers such as UPD PCL5&6, and Laserjet 4. I verified that Windows update has been installed on the computer. Justin, I have a script that does what you describe and I've been using it as well as a Microsoft fixit that removes all printers and drivers. I've got the problem narrowed down a little more.
